Everything — The Origins Of U.P.S.

So early 2014 I get a messenger text from my good friend KC, checking and seeing what I was up to in life with my gallery etc… He let me know that the store he was involved with - Capsule, had a spare room beside their retail store in Central Park, Sydney. They wanted to use it for something like a gallery or skate shop. At the time I was working dumb hours on kind of — gallery and part time in a different skate shop. Enter Daniel Bicker, him and I were constantly complaining about the shops we were working at being out of touch and doing a disservice to the Sydney skateboarding community. It was a perfect storm really, the text from KC, the conversations with Dan and Capsule with a space and cash.

A skate shop seemed to be the best option for the little room. We opened July 31st, 2014 and went from 0-100 real quick. Within 6 months Capsule moved out of that location and we took over the whole site, within a year the 2 most out of touch skate shops in the City closed their doors (this wasn’t what we were aiming to do, they had their own problems). And now, come July 31st, 2024 it’ll be our 10 year anniversary!

I’m super proud of what we built, we’ve gone through many changes, there’s never been a dull moment. We survived a pandemic, bankrupt business partners and so far, myself moving overseas to be with my family. It’s been awesome and I love it and miss it so much.
