New Balance — New For Me

I've finally found my go-to skate shoe—not one I designed, of course, but one built by Brandon Westgate and New Balance Numeric. Westgate’s pro model, the NB# 508, has become my staple, and lucky for me, NB# has been flowing me a few pairs. Back in Australia, long before I had a skate shop, I was deep into adidas Skateboarding. My shop was one of only 12 top-tier adidas Skateboarding accounts in the world, which meant I was getting free shoes from them for nearly a decade. Switching brands, models, and silhouettes after all that time felt like a big deal. I’m too old, and I don’t skate enough these days to spend time testing shoes that might not work for me. When I first started at Overload, I got a mixed box from NB# and quickly realized the 508 was the one.

It has a really low-profile sole which makes them really good for flip tricks, the 508 offers a lot of board feel maybe not a great shoe if you’re a jumper, all these things make the great straight outa the box. The colorways are always solid, and getting flowed pairs forces me to skate in colours I might not have picked for myself—but I’m into it.

Thanks Nick, Overload and NB# for looking out for an ageing skateboarding trying to hang onto his tre flip!
